Team Mobi here! We are several weeks into social distancing and going strong!
Sara is an AMAZING kindergarten teacher and has been a huge Mobi & Mobi Kids supporter since day one. You can see her passion and dedication pouring out of her Instagram posts (@spark.play.learn). She’s even managed to use Mobi tiles in ways that we didn’t think of!
While we all know that the work that teachers do inside the classroom is irreplaceable, there are things parents/caregivers can keep in mind not just during these “social distancing” times, but over holidays, summer break, and just all around!
We had the chance to chat with Sara about what her 6 tips are for parents who are trying to find activities for their kids to do at home.
- Follow the interests of your kids to create joyful, memorable moments. This is one of the most important points of emphasis. Some like to cook, some like to draw, and others need to run around. They will tell you what they enjoy doing so instead of constantly trying to figure out what to do, ask your kids and listen to them! In the case of a screen-addicted child, we know it’s tough, but do your best to not make it an option!
- Set a goal for the day by getting your kids to ask questions and then discover answers. For example, propose something open ended and as simple as “how might we use these toilet paper rolls today?” This allows your kids explore creative ways to use objects in the house and promotes independent thinking.
- Make time to play. Have fun! Challenge you and your kids to put down your devices and just play. You’ll never get this time back so enjoy every moment and find joy in even the smallest things.
- Mathematics and literacy is everywhere. Once you start looking, you’ll notice it in cooking, cleaning, and in nature. Once you start noticing it yourself, you can embed it into whatever you are doing with your kids.
- Collect everything! You never know what you can create with the materials that we usually identify as garbage. You don’t need to go out and buy lots of arts & crafts supplies. Everything from loose buttons, cotton balls, toilet paper rolls, scraps of paper, etc might be used for some creation.
- Lastly, don’t be afraid of the mess since there’s time to clean it up!! Don’t be overly focused on cleaning up after your kids. Take the time to enjoy the activity with them and then set a clean up time at the end that you can all help in.
Hope these are useful!
Much love,
Team Mobi

I like when you said to make a goal for the day by encouraging your children to ask questions and then investigate the answers. I want to send my child to a preschool before he attends kindergarten. Thanks for the tips on teaching children and I hope that I can find a good preschool for my son soon. http://www.cottageschoolsco.com/ages-programs
